Highly sought after 1933 Morgan Super Sports; 3-speed gearbox with reverse; JAP engine; 12 volt conversion; regularly used running and driving example; ex California car
Few vehicles capture the spirit of pre-war British motoring quite like the Morgan Super Sports Three-Wheeler. Developed from H.F.S. Morgan's pioneering cyclecar concept, it combined lightweight construction, independent front suspension and a charismatic V-twin engine to deliver performance that belied its modest capacity.
Particularly sought after today are the JAP-powered examples, prized for their strong torque, reliability and distinctive exhaust note. Fast, affordable and hugely entertaining to drive, the Super Sports became a familiar sight on British roads, race circuits and hill climbs, helping establish Morgan's reputation and securing its place as one of the most iconic three-wheelers of the pre-war era.
Coming from a small private collection, this particularly handsome example was manufactured in 1933 and believed to have spent most of its life in sunny California, only returning to the UK in early 2022 and has been in the hands of our vendor ever since. The car is currently displaying only 3,616 miles with potential bidders encouraged to satisfy themselves.
Being a mid-production car, this three-wheeler notably features a three-speed gearbox with reverse rather than the earlier two-speed, increasingly usability and a further development of Morgan’s engineering.
As can be seen in the accompanying photographs, this Morgan presents in strong condition with only a few minor blemishes one would expect of a 93-year vehicle but does nothing to detract from the overall appearance. The red paintwork retains good depth and shine, nicely contrasted by the white wire wheels and usable interior.
After much enjoyment, the car is only for sale due to lack of use and has been running and driving on site as can be seen in the attached video. They inform us that the little Morgan has been treated to a 12-volt conversion, as well as having the brakes recently reconditioned to keep her in fine running condition.
In summary, this Super Sports presents as a fine, low ownership, and potentially low mileage example of the breed in running and driving condition with interesting import history. Teamed with the sought-after three-speed gearbox and 12-volt conversion, this presents as a fine way into pre-war motorsport.
Bidders should be aware that there is currently no papwerwork with the car so a new V5C may potentially need applying for by the new owner. If we receive paperwork in the meantime, this description will be updated.
