The Packard 740 also recognized as the 7th series super eight, is an elegant and powerful American prewar. The 140.5 inch wheel base fits the stately automobile with its far-reaching hood. It is instantly recognizable by its four large doors on the hood sides versus the smaller standard eight. This body style, the convertible coupe, offers open air driving with the advantage of roll up windows for inclement weather or fall touring. The body tag supports this as an original body on chassis example, and all numbers in the engine compartment correspond as they should. Fitted with artillery (wood) wheels, this is a rare option for a 7th series Packard.
This 740 was likely restored in the 1950s and has held up incredibly well. The interior is suspected to have been redone at the same time and still is very usable. The rumble seat retains its original interior (minus carpet) and is in very nice condition. While this is a very solid example, it is important to note that the side-mount wells / drains are original, which indicated that this 740 has led a relatively pampered life.
The car runs and drives nicely. Having recently been in storage, this 740 is running and driving better each time it is exercised. The 7th series is fitted with a four-speed transmission which is a very nice feature. Having the “granny low gear” transforms first gear into a much taller gear than its predecessors. It is running off of its original vacuum tank, and an auxiliary fuel pump is present for priming the system, if needed. We enjoy driving this car and it has proved to be a reliable example not requiring the auxiliary fuel pump.
The Kendall Oil Change stickers on the door jamb start in May of 1962 noting:

The engine is said to have been rebuilt, and we are awaiting additional details! This 740 is a full classic with the Classic Car Club of America!!
