This vehicle is the very desirable and rare Darrin designed convertible victoria, which is mounted on the model 1806, 127-inch chassis and was part of the company’s Super 8 Custom Line. The new Super Eight Custom line was more lavish in trim than the regular Super Eight series and was powered by the largest, eight-cylinder engine Packard produced during this year.
This vehicle, number 1806-2008, is known by Darrin aficionados as “2008”. It has been always well known within the collector car circles. It is believed that one of the first, if not the first owner, was a US Army Colonel who purchased the car in the United States and had it shipped to England where it was used as his personal vehicle. The officer returned the Darrin to Florida after the second world and in 1953, "2008" was sold to Eugene Boss of Springfield, Massachusetts. One of the founding members of the Classic Car Club of America, Boss used the Darrin on a regular basis participating in many of the CCCA’s earliest Caravans. The car was then sold to D. C. Axtell, another New England based early car collector who kept the car for a few years before selling it to a Mr. Schulman who almost immediately sold the car to a Mr. Howarth. Howarth sold the car a few years later to Dick Roach in 1976. Roach owned the car until 1988 when "2008" was sold to the Bray Collection and has remained ever since.
This car has been meticulously maintained and well appreciated by all of its past and current owners who understood the historical significance of the desirable Darrin. It has been restored a couple of times during its existence with great care taken to preserve its originality. The car has been a multiple award winner at many shows and concours. It has been given a First Senior Award badge #1451 by the Classic Car Club of America. The car has been actively campaigned on numerous CCCA Caravans and long-distance driving tours throughout America including Alaska. "2008" has always been fastidiously serviced and has performed reliably during the tens of thousands of miles that it has been driven.
A very authentic and properly restored example of a rare Packard Darrin Convertible Victoria. It would be an ideal candidate for a variety of driving events, especially those long-distance caravans sponsored by the Classic Car Club of America. Due to its rarity and design significance, it will also be highly sought after at any of the nation’s leading invitational Concours d’Elegances.
The asking price is 235,000.00 and "2008" is located near Detroit, Michigan.
