1935 Aston Martin MkII Sports Saloon
This is a truly rare and handsome machine: a matching-numbers Mk II Sports Saloon - one of only 21 ever built. Few survive and this example, chassis J4/ 505/ L, has an astonishingly comprehensive and continuous history file, running from 1939 and its second owner.
Its first owner, Miss D Evans, was active in motorsport and features in the period material included in the 1935 issue of The Light Car, having set a new ladies record at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb. Having passed into ownership of a navy officer in 1939, it remained in his care until well after WWII in 1954. It then passed through several more owners until 1977, when it came into the care of the Armstrong family who have cherished it for nearly 50 years to date.
The family started a careful and high quality restoration which was close to completion before other projects took attention away. It was stored complete and in nearly-finished state, and remains so with little work left to do. During the restoration, a new engine was built around the original cylinder block by marque expert, David Taylor. Unfortunately, before it could be run in, the block suffered significant frost damage. Much of the engine is likely to be useable but the buyer will need to budget to have the block resolved. Aside from this, the car needs only to be finished rather than rebuilt.
The model is on a long chassis, giving generous space in the rear. It has a sliding sunroof, the vehicle was resprayed in period from original black with chrome brightwork to red with black wings and roof, and red interior upholstery.
